Since Mark’s passing, he has been speaking to me through his music. During our life together, we had tickets to see Stevie Wonder together three times…Stevie’s music was often played around our house and was essentially the soundtrack to our final days together. “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” was one of our songs. Mark had planned to buy tickets to the Stevie Wonder show in Chicago for our 10th anniversary…So in a bittersweet act of love forMark, I went to that show with some dear family and friends. Yesterday, as I was looking through family photos, I found this one, from the last outing we ever took as a family. As you can plainly see, this moment speaks to me in the same exact way that Mark’s music often does.
You are the sunshine of my life
That’s why I’ll always be around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you’ll stay in my heart
I feel like this is the beginning
Though I’ve loved you for a million years
And if I thought our love was ending
I’d find myself drowning in my own tears
You are the sunshine of my life
That’s why I’ll always stay around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you’ll stay in my heart
You must have known that I was lonely
Because you came to my rescue
And I know that this must be Heaven
How could so much love be inside of you?
You are the sunshine of my life, yeah
That’s why I’ll always stay around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you’ll stay in my soul
You are the sunshine of my life, baby
That’s why I’ll always stay around
Can’t stop living
You are the apple of my eye
