Homecoming 2022 As a family, we’ve endured many bittersweet “firsts” together. Bittersweet because Mark should be here. On his firstborn’s first homecoming, he’d be so proud of this remarkable, polite, caring, sweet young man of ours. And while he’s not physically here, we’re reminded of his ethereal presence in abundant ways. Yet, we’re also blessed beyond measure. Our vast and deep feelings of longing can and do commingle with a profound sense of gratitude. In Portuguese they have a word for this which has no English translation. It’s called “saudade” and it perfectly describes how I feel about our milestone moments. I am immensely grateful for another beautiful day of celebration and making memories.
