When I first lost you, all I wanted was to make you proud. This desire is what fueled me and gave me the strength to move forward each day. I was so proud to be your wife and I was determined to ensure that no one on this earth would ever forget the light that you brought to the world. Mark, you were a born leader. So many in Shorewood still reach out frequently to tell me that the impact of your leadership left a lasting imprint, yet a longing for your thoughtful guidance remains. You led with such a special blend of humor, empathy and steadfast resolve. Mark, you were a truly remarkable friend. Countless people called you their best friend and brother. I am so grateful that many of those people have remained a special part of my life and heart today. A myriad of students considered you an inspirational mentor and the ripple effect of your life remains. Yet, your most important role on this earth was DAD. Your three greatest gifts to this world were Cooper, Lucia and Cecilia. You live on in them eternally. I see you in Cooper’s twinkling eyes, athleticism, grit, and charisma. Lucia has your quick-witted humor, confidence, and wisdom beyond years. In Cecilia lies a heart of gold, just like yours. She always knows the perfect thing to say when one of us is sad and words elude me. Her magnetic smile and gift of gab draws others in, just like you did. Our three little birds bear all the best parts of you and it fills my heart to see them light the way for others like you did. How lucky I am to be their mama and how blessed I was to spend twelve years with you by my side. My goodness we miss you, Mark, especially on days like today. Happy heavenly Father’s Day. We love you forever, carry you in our hearts always, and look for you all around us every day. ![]()
